As you have probably seen on our Instagram or Facebook, we had to leave our work season at Yosemite National Park early due to the Washburn Fire. We had planned on working into October, but the fire shut down both of the stores we were working at and our housing in Wawona. We drove back to Orlando, Florida the end of July.
While we could have tried to wait it out, we were spending a lot of money on hotels and food. The smoke was also unhealthy to breathe. We cut our losses and came back to Florida.
We loved our time working in Yosemite and the Conservancy was a wonderful organization to work for. Our housing was nice and the hours were great. We got to hike so much of the park and learned a lot of history. We took a Yosemite Conservancy tour overnight in Hetch Hetchy and attended several other ranger and NPS programs and talks.
We are so thankful we got to spend several months in Yosemite and also got to visit White Sands, Saguaro, Grand Canyon, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks on the way! We are not sure what the future holds. Craig is currently working for Disney seasonally decorating the theme parks, hotels and cruise ships for the holiday season. It is fun and hard work. He loves learning how Holiday Services pulls it all off! We are looking forward to spending some time in Florida and attending all the holiday events we love like Halloween Horror Nights, Mickeys Not So Scary, Ice, etc.
We are grateful the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias and the town of Wawona were saved from the Washburn Fire. They are truly special places.
